Brian Coogan, Sundays 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Lazy Sunday Afternoon: Music and dedications to while away the afternoon.
IF you lived in Tasmania at the dawn of the 70's, you may remember BRIAN COOGAN from his time at TNT Channel 9, where he read the late Friday evening news. Brian has had a long career in the media, spanning over 35 years.
Although employed full time by the Australian Taxation Office, Brian initially hit the airwaves in 1969 in his home town of Launceston, as a casual announcer on commercial station 7EX before moving across to 7LA where he remained for almost four years. During that time he also read the Channel 9 late news.
In the early 1970's a regulatory career in broadcasting beckoned, first as a program monitor with the former Australian Broadcasting Control Board in Hobart, and secondly - when that body was eventually succeeded in 1977 by the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal (ABT) - Brian was its Tasmanian manager until 1985. While at the ABT, Brian also spent two years as a volunteer presenter on that state's first public (now community) broadcasting station, 7CAE FM.
Moving with his young family to WA in the late 1980's, Brian undertook an advertising sales "apprenticeship" with 6MD Merredin prior to being recruited as a senior sales consultant by 6PR where he remained for 10 years. During his time at 6PR, he was also a relief talk back presenter on Nightline and After Midnight.
Brian is now Curtin FM's senior marketing and sales consultant, and is passionate about the need to generate strong business sponsorship revenue to underpin the ongoing financial viability of Curtin FM 100.1.
Although leg paralysis from childhood poliomyelitis precluded his involvement in competitive sports, Brian is keen on swimming and walking and has retained a great interest in driving, travelling, current affairs, his local Anglican Church and Freemasonry.
