Ray Chan, Saturdays 10:00am to 12:00 noon

Something Different: A treasure chest of lovely music, obscurities, requests and forgotten hits. Every week the show also travels round the world and plays a hit in a foreign language, and gives listeners a chance to win a prize by correctly identifying the link between five songs

RAY CHAN was a university student when he first started to get involved with radio. In 1979/80, together with luminaries such as Pieta O'Shaughnessy and Gordon Freeman, Ray helped launch a nostalgia program on radio 6UVS FM (now RTR FM), a program which still continues today, more than 25 years after it began.

When Ray graduated from university and got a real job, he started teaching at Curtin University's Muresk campus, where staff members included veterininarian Dr Ian Fairnie, later to become heavily involved with Curtin FM. Ray then embarked on a media career, and worked for five years as a reporter with the ABC, where fellow staff members included Peter Newman. Ray left the ABC to join the print media, where he still works today as a newspaper editor. For a short while in the 80s, Ray was also a weekend newsreader on 6KY, during Sunday Gold programs presented by none other than Peter Newman, who had just left the ABC.

In 1999, the call of the broadcasting studio beckoned again, and Ray joined Curtin FM, where he has presented a range of music programs.
